Moved
Moved from Lepidophora.

Lepidophora
I think this is L. lepidocera, but L. vetusta also occurs in Texas and I don't know what it looks like. I will try to get it to species later.

As for biology, these flies are kleptoparasites of cavity nesting Hymenoptera. The fly larvae consume the prey provisioned for the wasp larvae rather than directly attacking the host larvae (as is the case for most bombyliids).

Way to go Julia!
Now, can you tell me anything about this fly? Anything would help.

ID
Lepidocera sp.

Thank you Andy!
This is the first of these I have seen, could you possibly tell me more about them? (Inquiring minds want to know), you know... or something like that. Just a name doesn't do it for me....I want to really understand this insect, and how it relates to everything else. Every new discovery has value, every new knowledge has a place. Thanks, again!

Fix name
First, I need to correct my typo on the name: it's Lepidophora, not Lepidocera. I don't know much about them. We don't have this genus in the West, where I come from. I encounter them only in my travels in Mexico, but I don't have much to tell you. Others surely do.
