Black & Yellow Argiope - Argiope aurantia - Rome, Floyd County, Georgia, USA August 4, 2008
An uncommon color variation of Argiope aurantia. The specimen was fairly large; it could be either an adult or sub-adult. Interestingly, there was no zig-zagging stabilimentum present on the web. Unlike most Black and Yellow Argiopes, this one was found living in the middle of a dry, sunny field that consisted mostly of grasses. Perhaps this deviation from the normal A. aurantia habitat had something to do with its unusual color?
