Thanks Bob. It sure looks like the Louisiana speciman. The Fla speciman on BOLD is a lot darker, but I have seen that kind of variation in other moths. Plus the hindwing matches also!

It's not a well marked example if I'm reading this correctly. I'm not really an expert of the genus. Let's ask around for more help before moving.
The closest thing that I can find is a rarely filmed Dagger Moth, Acronicta sinescripta Also, check out the link here.
MPG does not have an image yet, but BOLD has one here that is much darker than yours, collected in Florida. Also, one from GBIF is here.

scripta = written/writing

Maybe we should call it the Un-written Dagger.
