If so, the first for California, breaking the Arizona monopoly.

Update August 8, 2008 - Saw these again at UCI Arboretum in Irvine. Approximately four individuals present, similar in number to the earlier Riley siting.

It sure looks like a male of this species...
...but do wait for conformation from Dr. Ascher.

I haven't Bombus sonorus in the California's Central Valley for years. Nice to know that it's still somewhere in the state.

We're populating an Orange County natural history website.
It currently has one B. sonorus that was photographed in 1977. This is the first one I've seen, and I've been shooting for three years. There were at least three or four feeding on the sage today.
