Unidentified small butterfly or moth - Xanthothrix neumoegeni

Unidentified small butterfly or moth - Xanthothrix neumoegeni
Stough Canyon Nature Center, Los Angeles County, California, USA
April 14, 2022
Size: approx 2cm.
Walking the small trail behind the Nature Center, I encountered a wide variety of insects, including this small and very brightly colored specimen on a yellow pincushion bloom. My first impression from a distance was a possible Skipper. It was about that size. I have now learned that it is actually a moth... and drinking nectar from a flower. Who knew!

Thanks Bob... forgot!
Thanks.

Xanthotrix neumoegeni
This small and colorful dayflying moth appears to be Xanthotrix neumoegeni. Hodges # 6618. Nice find as I have also seen this moth nectoring on Yellow Pincushion flowers

Thanks.
It was quite a surprise, and more so to learn that it is a nectar-sipping moth!
