filth covered orange insect - Lilioceris lilii

filth covered orange insect - Lilioceris lilii
Hartford County, Connecticut, USA
August 7, 2008
Size: ~6mm
Found several munching on neighbor's plants. Sorry for the poor quality of the photos. I did not see any prolegs when I turned one upside down (after cleaning it). Is this some sort of beetle larva?
