Ground Beetle - Platynus decentis

Ground Beetle - Platynus decentis

Size: 13mm

There must've been a mix-up
this is clearly a Platynus
Moved from Agonum ferreum.

My single example of Agonum ferreum with same Murray data
is confirmed today as that species. There must have been a mix-up in photo associations back in 2008. I see that the photo shows a distinct constriction behind vertex suggestive of Platynus. My specimen does not have that constriction. The photo does not show the characteristically punctate elytral striae of Agonum ferreum. However, the dark color of basal antennomeres and femora in the photo does match mine. The imaged eyes appear too hemispherical (bug-eyed) to be Agonum ferreum. The clincher that we have a mismatch in photos is: my specimen is 7 mm, Tom's post says 13 mm. Sorry I didn't catch the mismatch in 2008. Thanks Curt.

Addendum: Photo looks like "Platynus megalops" of the southwest. Tom, I can't recall if you traveled there in 2008?

Agonum ferreum
based on my microscopic examination of this specimen. Thanks Tom.
