Spreadwing Skipper(?) on Dandelion - Thorybes bathyllus

Spreadwing Skipper(?) on Dandelion - Thorybes bathyllus
Junction City, 15 mi. SE, Bottomland, Geary County, Kansas, USA
April 26, 2022
This skipper's face is black-gray and there is no white on the antennal club: Could it be a Northern Cloudywing? (S)he was nectaring on dandelions in our yard. The white spots appear on both the under- and uppersides.

Spots and face
Northern and Southern probably would be the most likely in your area.

The first thing that struck me about this was that the spots looked too large for Northern. Also those spots in the middle area of the forewing were close to overlapping. Look at the second photo for these marks.

Southern Cloudywing does not always have a white flash at the downward bend of the antennae club(s).

The above moved me to take a closer look at the face. I think this does have a white face, but it is just in shadow in the photo. Look closely at the SECOND photo and compare the bottom part of the face with the rest of the dark areas on this individual.

All this leads me to think (best guess) that this is a Southern Cloudywing.

Let me know what you think.
