Big-Eyed Narrow-Bodied Fly on Golden Alexanders - Bibio alienus - male

Big-Eyed Narrow-Bodied Fly on Golden Alexanders - Bibio alienus - Male
Junction City, 15 mi. SE, Bottomland Prairie Restoration, Geary County, Kansas, USA
May 6, 2022
Size: 1/8"-1/4"
This was a tiny fly drinking nectar on Golden Alexanders (Zizia aurea). It's striking for the hump-backed thorax with the fuzzy fringe, the tan femurs (or tibias?) with black legs, white bands on a black abdomen, very narrow abdomen with wings as long or longer. Sorry for the shakiness of these photos. The wind was fierce!
