Strange insect. - Piezogaster

Strange insect. - Piezogaster
Hurricane, Putnam County, West Virginia, USA
August 8, 2008
I found this insect while wandering slowly through an overgrown area behind my house. This is the same specimen seen in the second photo with the smaller companion below on the same plant.

belongs in Coreidae
for sure.

Stephen, I moved these out of ID Request...
and put them in True Bugs to help clear out the ID section. We have too many pages in there now.

Please put a comment here if you do find the adults :)

Have a great day!

Well...
We now have 3 different variations but still no adult. Mine below fits somewhere between your two based on the size of the wing buds...

Any chance you might be able to make a return trip to see what adults you may find soon?

Please read comment from Eric on my image.

Definitely. I'll go out toda
Definitely. I'll go out today to see if they are still there. I found them in my back yard, so it shouldn't be a problem keeping tabs on them to see what they become. BTW..I didn't even notice the wing buds until I read your comment. Now I see what you are talking about. By the way, your shots are great, mind if I ask what you are shooting with? I am a Pentax K10D man. I'm using my 18-55 for my macro work, but sometimes I use my 50-200, especially for butterflies, so that I don't have to get too close. It gives me tons of time to get my shots before they fly away. This set was the former lens, though.
Steve.

It would be great if you could...
We have several images of these but nothing to relate them to the adult stage.

I use a Canon 20D. I think that shot was with the 100mm Macro lens. I keep thinking about buying the ring flash for it but it cost as much or even slightly more than the lens :(

Found them again!
I found them again today. I added a couple new images. One image shows yet a third one of these strange creatures smaller even than the second. There is more detail in today's shots because I had sunlight instead of flash, to aid my shots! Nothing like good ol' natural light to make the color look best! (I have been using a digital grey card, but still get more vibrant and true color when sun is involved!)
