What kind of velvet ant. -

Size: About 1/2 inch
I know this is a velvet ant but is there any way to tell what kind?

Dasymutilla californica
This species is D. californica. It is fairly rare outside the Central valley of California, but can sometimes be found in Idaho and Utah. We can tell that this is neither D. stevensi or D. vestita because of the ridges found on the back of the thorax.
