Wasp - Dianthidium simile - male

Wasp - Dianthidium simile - Male
Hackensack, Cass County, Minnesota, USA
August 2, 2008
Any ID for this wasp? Thanks.

Dianthidium simile
male bee

Interesting! A couple syrphid flies look like this.
Perhaps they're mimics of the bee. However, they have the pattern upside down!

This is Scaeva pyrastri; the other - who's name I forget - looks even closer.

Often, the markings are more ivory-colored.
