Moved from
Neofelderia rata

Tentative ID. This is not
Neofelderia rata
(Edwards, 1882) which has a black head, black thorax, and black along coastal margin. There are two examples in BugGuide for that species as well as a link to BOLD images.

I emailed Bob Patterson. He thinks it's
Neofelderia rata
. The shape of the dark band apparently is a key feature. Images at MPG are being updated as a result of this discussion. The image by TM under
Lycomorpha grotei
will be moved to
rata
as will the live image under
Neoalbertia constans
.
The website, I referenced below, places this species in
Neoalobertia
but All-Leps places it in
Neofelderia
. Will go with
Neofelderia
for now.

Great Stuff
Steve – Thanks for sleuthing this out. I've gone back to this thing several times and was never happy with either N. constans or L. grotei. Just now I see that MPG puts it into the genus Pyromorpha.

Not Sure
The
Pyromorpha rata
image does look like the same species but the name used may be a mistake as well. This may be better clarified soon as I understand that this family is being updated. I'm not sure any update will change the species name on BugGuide for a while, though, because we try to go by All-Leps and so it would have to change too.

All-Leps
There seems to be general agreement about abandoning All-Leps as a standard (see, for instance,
this discussion
). I've proposed following MPG, and no one has come up with a viable alternative at this point, so that seems to be what we're doing these days. I've been working from the Excel sheet Bob sent me two months ago, which gives the taxonomy from superfamily to subtribe (where applicable). That spreadsheet, curiously, does not include this species, but the species list
here
uses
Neoalbertia rata
, so perhaps that's what we should go with.

Not Yet
I just responded to the discussion you mentioned. I back using MPG 100%. But in this case MPG is updating Zygaenidae pending release of an update in ZooKeys later this month. Once that happens, I think we should follow what MPG decides to do.
I actually created a page for
Neoalbertia rata
before I realized that a page for
Neofelderia rata
existed. I subsequently deleted it so all the images of that species stay together with the least amount of moving around.

Leaning toward L. grotei but...
...take a look at
this
? Info
here
.
Then again I'm not sure that the example in the Guide of
Lycomorpha grotei
is correctly ID'd.
