This is the second shot of a specimen previously submitted. After reading the info page on the Blue Dasher, I wonder if this might be the female.

I linked another similar image
that I think might be the previous one to which you're referring. However, the dates don't match. Did I get the wrong one? Or did you change the date by mistake?

All of these linked images taken on 6/1/08. Thanks

That's the date that should be on them
it is helpful for our data maps if we end up keeping them for the guide, and can sometimes even help with ID. Please edit them by clicking below each image.

Epitica sp.
Hi,

This is a species of Baskettail (Epitheca) and appears to be a male based on the pinched abdomen. The species cannot be ID'd as we cannot by your photo see a profile view of the terminal appendage.

Baskettail (Epitheca)
Hi Michelle! I have other views, but what is meant by the terminal appendage? Cynthia

Terminal appendage ....
... is the organ/structure at the very tip the the abdomen. In Epitheca Baskettails, the shape of it is unique for each species but that shape must be viewed directly from the side in order to make a positive ID.

An example of this can be seen here ...

Baskettail
Thanks Michelle. Here's a side view for confirmation. Cynthia

probably Spiny
When viewing full-size, I'm fairly sure I can make out the spine on the appendages that would make this a Spiny Baskettail. Not quite 100% of that though.

Spiny Baskettail
I have two immages of the enlarged the tails, but don't know how to link them to the former posting. Will add with title Baskettail 1 and Baskettail 2. These are of the same specimen taken on 6-1-08. Cynthia

I don't see them yet
but you can add them by just clicking on "add image" under any one of these linked shots. Info stays the same on the submission form, only the picture has to be added.

Update: I now see you're adding them - I will link them to these.

I still cannot see the features I'd need to in order to make a positive ID Cynthia. I'm sure this site is full of Baskettail photos that have never been IDd to the species level so don't feel bad. You're in the majority.

Enjoy your day!

Michelle

Thanks Michelle!
