Leaf rolling Cricket - Gathering_2008 - Camptonotus carolinensis

Leaf rolling Cricket - Gathering_2008 - Camptonotus carolinensis
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee, USA
August 10, 2008
This is one of the last bugs encountered at the gathering. Found inside it's rolled leaf. It would shudder the 'basket' when the leaf was touched. Note the antennae looped inside -- they were easily 4x the length of the cricket. gathering_2008

From Ramsey Creek

Yes, thanks...Ramsey Creek
It was the last stop....just after you guys departed :( Audrey, Ed or Mike will have better shots of the cricket outside of the leaf and it's AMAZINGLY long antennae.

Antennae
I was so fascinated watching it that I forgot to photograph it!

I think David, Audrey, or Ed did shoot it though.

Great find!
This is the principle prey of the wasp Sphex nudus, by the way.
