Acmaeodera pubiventris

Acmaeodera pubiventris
N of Farmington, San Juan County, New Mexico, USA
June 9, 2022
On Sphaeralcea sp.

It was a super hot day (great for Acmaeodera), but thanks to the long-staying drought, there were almost no flowers out. After driving back and forth on the back roads, I finally spotted a tiny patch of globemallow along the road. After pulling over, I noticed that there were several patches of globemallow obscured from the road. I ran back and forth between the little patches looking for any sign of movement and finally!--an Acmaeodera flew onto a flower. I spent some more time doing this and got a few more species.
