Tortoise Beetle larva - Charidotella sexpunctata

Tortoise Beetle larva - Charidotella sexpunctata
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
August 10, 2008
Found on a morning glory leaf. I think there is a high probability that this is a larva of the Golden Tortoise Beetle since I found several of the adult beetles on the same plant about a week later.

Poop shield
This is how they build the fecal shield. This photo shows it better than mine but I caught it in a video. It kept munching while spreading its feces, multitasking.
Amazing how they go from something repulsive to gorgeous golden little turtles

video
Enjoyed watching the video. You must have used a tripod because the movie is really steady. The beetles really are incredible. I came across several this summer -- one that I posted which had almost rainbow colors and another which I haven't posted which vaguely looks like a gingerbread man.

Tripod
Yes, indeed I used a tripod. I am getting more and more fascinated by these little golden turtles.
