Slender Pigeon Louse - Columbicola columbae

Slender Pigeon Louse - Columbicola columbae
Warsaw, Kosciusko County, Indiana, USA
June 8, 2022
Size: ~3.5 mm
Collected from the wing feathers of a young domestic pigeon. The lice lice neatly between the wing feather veins and can be difficult to remove, but are much more easily collected when they leave the wings to feed on stomach down. I am reasonably certain this is Columbicola columbae, a very common parasite of pigeons and other flighted birds.

Taken at 200x magnification.
