Damselfly, Bluet? - Argia plana
Galena, Illinois, USA

Moved from Dancers.

We finally decided this is A.plana
The species is probably a species of concern in Illinois. You may want to contact a local conservation organization such as The Natural Lands Institute here and let them know of your find.

to damselflies for now...

Wow! This is a strange one!
Are you sure this is from Illinois? Did you take a trip out west recently?? ;-)

Our first thought on seeing it is Argia vivida, and maybe it's ok to see that in Illinois, but we haven't. Of course, a big storm could have blown it east. Were there lots of these or just this one? Maybe Jason will comment with his thoughts.

Interesting.
Definitely Illinois. I wish I had been out west recently! Yes there were loads of them. In a valley at a friends farm in Galena.
