looks good, except...
for the range. This fellow is Eastern US and a few spottings in California. Maybe the acorn moths forgot to let folks know they're moving up to my area? :)

Good point. Perhaps, for now, it should be Blastobasis sp.

 
I still think it's a pretty good ID
Visually it looks like a very good match. I wasn't saying I didn't think it was possible as much as I was wondering if our range is wrong or the range has changed. Couldn't find any other definitive range info online for this critter.
