gathering_2008: On the same Mountain Ash, there were a number of these beautifully colored geometrid caterpillars. Looks to us like the White Spring caterpillar, Wagner p. 169 so we're posting it there.

Bluish Spring moth?
The inset picture on page 169 of Wagner looks just like yours, and the last line of the description points to L. semiclarata.
