Prionus imbricornis
Has to be a female Prionus pocularis or imbricornis. Do you still have the specimen? Can you count the antennal segments? I really cannot say for sure based on the photo, but I think there are 14 or 15 which would confirm imbricornis. The dark chestnut brown color is another clue to that species. Nice beetle. Too bad it drowned in your pool, but they are reported to be quite destructive to the roots of many tree species.
