Pyrrhocoris apterus - Firebug - Pyrrhocoris apterus

Pyrrhocoris apterus - Firebug - Pyrrhocoris apterus
Twin Falls, Twin Falls County, Idaho, USA
July 6, 2022
Size: 12 mm
Several of these were found on mallow that had grown wild last fall, climbed a trellis, and left many seeds in the chicken wire. These insects seemed to be feeding on the seeds. Are these a pest? Should I try to rid my garden of them? Not very widespread. An introduced species I assume. Do I need to be concerned? A great article on this insect can be found at the link below.
