Isodontia with tree cricket - Isodontia

Isodontia with tree cricket - Isodontia
Harms Woods Forest Preserve, Glenview, Cook County, Illinois, USA
August 2, 2008
We couldn't make out what we were seeing initially, but then realized it was a wasp with its prey. The wasp had a tree cricket (sorry Nancy!) and it seemed to be in constant motion. We realized finally that it was cutting off the antennae of the tree cricket, preparing it for flight back to the nest.

I have added this photo to the Info page...
...for Oecanthinae (tree crickets).

Well, at least.....
....there is an abundance of Two-spotted Tree Crickets! I just added building masonry on an entry overhang at my workplace as a place to find Neoxabea bipunctata. A female has literally been 'hanging' there all day.
