Moved
Moved from Tropidia.

Keyed to species with Shannon 1926.

It's a syrphid.
I'd better stop there, as I have a habit of mucking up IDs on this particular fly. If you're checking on these yourself, look for the enlarged rear leg.

Oh, heck. It's the same as your other one.

Tropidia
I'm not sure Ron. The hind femur of the previous one (Syritta pipiens) has a reddish spot and a row of spines along the hind femur.
The website shows Tropidia quadrata as having a completely black femora with a partially orange antennae.

Please take a look and let me know what you think.

I was going off this one, IDed here by Martin Hauser

Among the matches: stripes on thorax, antennae, large "tooth" on hind femur.

I did look at the link, but have problems working with pinned specimens. I thought the one shot live did look like yours.

Maybe we'll get an expert take on this. Yes, S. pipiens has more of a saw tooth on the leg, as opposed to the single tooth of T. quadrata.

Tropidia
Thanks Ron, the only Tropidia occurring in Ontario is Tropidia quadrata according to the Syrphidae of Ontario website. Hopefully, that is the correct one. Thanks for the information.
