I think this is a fiery skipper,
as one of the characteristics listed in Scott (1) is short antennae, and if you compare this image with a Whirlabout (below) there does appear to be a distinct difference in antennae length. However, as the Whirlabout is also a tentative ID, I'm certainly open to correction on this.


 
I tend to think it's a fiery skipper now, too
I got "Butterflies Through Binoculars," and although I'm in the range for both Fiery and Whirlabout, I do not believe I have ever seen the greenish-gray-yellow female or a male as boldly marked as the Whirlabout. Of course, I remain open for correction. Thank you very much for your help and time.
