An odd metalmark. The typical species in this area is A. virgulti, but this species has much more orange than any individual I've ever seen of that species live or in photos. We do have A. mormo cythera in the San Gabriels, apparently, but in many of the reference photos, I honestly cannot see a difference. Hoping someone here has a better idea... not sure where the best place for this image is that someone knowledgeable will see it.

This doesn't make sense from a range perspective, but A. mejicanus mejicanus (and other ssp.) have similar orange on the HW:
