June 12, 2022: with permission (thank you) meandered this prairie remnant looking for insects. One of the first sign of insects were galls on Horse nettles, Solanum carolinense; they were numerous. Collected 4 galls.
June 19, 2022: cut open a gall to a larva in a lightly woven cocoon
July 1, 2022: preparing to finally cut open another gall and a moth flew out of the rearing container. Cut open the 3rd gall to nothing, and the 4th gall to a dead moth, wings not expanded.

"Larvae of Frumenta nundinella Zeller utilize two different resources of their only host, horsenettle (Solanum carolinense L.). Larvae develop either within capsules fused from terminal leaves, or within fruits.
