thanks for the note on wing color. That is one thing I noticed different with the other two species.

Should have been relatively huge.
A. nigricans is very large for an Ammophila, so size should have been an indication, too (and noted in the posting).

Never have figured out how folks get measurements on a flying insect unless they kill it and pin it to a board. :)
