Silvery Checkerspot
Note the pale area within the small dark sub-marginal hindwing spots.

Also the outer edge of the orange spot band on the forewings is smoother (doesn't have that tooth) than on P. tharos.

Usually Pearl Crescent far outnumber Silvery in my area. But I try to look at each one (with butterfly binoculars) to check for Silvery Checkerspot.

 
I was uncomfortable
about the dark submarginal bands, but I have seen so few C. nycteis over the years and so many P. tharos that I clearly had blinders on. Thanks for being more careful than I was!
(I'm now oh-for-two on late-night IDs last night...)
