Mite on Moth? - Zanclognatha lituralis

red & grey mites?

Looks like you've got 2 hitchhikers there: the red one, & a dark grey, slightly larger one directly opposite it (same position on the other wing). I don't know what species they are -- I'm looking for that myself! Trying to ID some I saw on a dragonfly: http://www.flickr.com/photos/anitagould/23521193/in/set-853621/. Only thing I see here in Bugguide is family Trombidiidae - Velvet Mite: http://bugguide.net/node/view/2419/bgimage.

Parasitic Mites

I asked Tony Thomas about this. I've had up to 3-4 on a single moth, almost always on the wings, usually on the ventral surface.

Zanclognatha

The moth looks like a Lettered Zanclognatha. There was no Guide page for that species so I made one and moved your image from ID Request.
