On the underside of a large bivalve shell that was resting on the dirt in semi-disturbed forest habitat.

There is another observation linked below which may or may not be the same individual. (There were 3 of them running around and I couldn't keep track of which one was which.)

This is a female. Males in this species are exceedingly rare.

Diane, thanks so much for confirming the ID on this and my other submission! I am extremely curious to know now what a male of this species might look like. Is there an illustration or specimen you could link me to perchance?

I have wondered about that too ...
I found drawing of the forewing of Bertkauia marusiki in a paper one can get from Google Scholar. Type "Bertkauia" and look for: New species and records of Psocoptera from the Kuril Islands by Mockford. See Fig.14a. I have not, so far, found an image of the forewing of the exceedingly rare male of B. crossbyana.
