Possible Meconema Thalassinum? - Meconema thalassinum - Male
Everson, Whatcom County, Washington, USA
August 22, 2022
I found this little guy in our pool and I did my best to save it but unfortunately couldn't. Taking a closer look I noticed that I have never seen anything like it. It is roughly the size of a fingernail, it has a earwig looking tail, I think 4 wings, what looks like one long noes, or could be one antenna, was green, and had skinny stubby legs. I thought of baby grasshopper and baby dragonfly, but it didn't match with some aspects, and with all the crazy looking insects I've been seeing around over the last couple years, I had to do some research. According to Google, it could be a Meconema Thalassinum. I'm curious to see if that's correct, and if so, is it odd for it to be in Washington. I've also been seeing many strange flying insects that are unusually large. Also bees, wasps, and hornets that I haven't seen since I was little, or, have never seen before. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you.
