unfamiliar arachnid - Pisaurina mira

May 26, 2008
My wife came to get me for a "spider check" to make sure this was not a recluse or something, as it was lurking in our son's stroller one morning outside our vacation rental cabin in the northern GA mountains. The critter was large and distinctive enough that I had to shoot a few photos before relocating it to the vegetation. Am having trouble figuring it out. Seems most like a Pisaurid or Philodromid, to my eyes...

Moved
Moved from Pisaurina based on e-mail comment by Jeff Hollenbeck. Thanks Jeff!

Moved
Moved from Entelegynes. Thanks Sharon and Bill! I try to make a point of getting a photo showing eye arrangment of each spider, have learned the lesson that the eyes have it. Glad that one of my two guesses as to family was correct. Just a question now of whether the species can be determined.....

I will let an expert tell you
I will let an expert tell you what species since I'm not sure. A guess would be mira. Here is a wonderful article with pictures on the different spider eye arrangements that has been so helpful to me. http://bugguide.net/node/view/84423
