Dichotomius carolinus? - Dichotomius carolinus

Dichotomius carolinus? - Dichotomius carolinus
Mexico, Audrain County, Missouri, USA
August 25, 2022
Interesting that I first saw this beetle rolling a piece of horse manure…with its head, in my horses dry lot. It didn’t move it very far….maybe a foot or so from the time I found it. It then buried itself under the poop ball. The next day…it had a new poop ball that it was tunneling under (I suspect my horses disrupted the previous attempt) for which I now have this one protected. It has tunneled under, and it is consuming the ball from underneath.
