Soldier Fly? Stratiomys? - Syritta pipiens

Soldier Fly? Stratiomys? - Syritta pipiens
San Francisco, San Francisco County, California, USA
August 22, 2008
Size: ~1 cm

Peaceful Syrphid dude. Syritta pipiens.
Suspect one when you see legs like these.

Wow, thanks!
Ron:
Your ID help was fantastic! I've never seen a fly like this, and now I know what to look for (e.g. the legs!). Thanks so much!
Best wishes,
Scott

My pleasure.
Once you start seeing these small syrphids, you'll see more. And that's a treat! There's at least one other with a similar leg, but this is the more common.
