Western Spotted Cucumber Beetle - Diabrotica undecimpunctata
Los Gatos, Oka Percolation Ponds, Santa Clara County, California, USA
March 2, 2008
Size: 6-8 mm
A small, green beetle with 11 black spots. Appears to be a Chrysomelid, maybe genus Diabrotica, Cucumber Beetles. Found on a California Brittlebush.

Our recollection is that we tried to straighten this out once
and found two sources with exactly conflicting information, or maybe it was one source where they said one thing and then identified things exactly the other way. Hope someday someone will clean things up. Whichever is the correct name, the ones with all back legs are found out west and have, at least temporarily, been placed under D.u.u.
Lately folks have just been placing things on the species page

I'm curious.
Would this be D. u. howardi because the head, antennae and legs are completely black as stated in the identification section under info. Just curious of the differences between the subspecies.

Spotted cucumber beetle - Diabrotica undecimpunctata
Green seems more vibrant than the norm. Nice detail in the photo.
