syrphid fly - Syrphus

syrphid fly - Syrphus
Jay, Essex County, New York, USA
August 13, 2008

Moved
Moved from Syrphini.

Tribe Syrphini, unless you get lucky.
I see from an earlier post that you've run into this before.

What you have here is either Eupeodes or Syrphus. Sometimes a few visitors to this site can and will tell the difference. Lacking that, park this babie at Syrphini and maybe someday you'll get a tighter ID.

Someday is now. It's Syrphus.
Absence of margined abdomen separates this from Eupeodes.
