Aquatic Larva

Aquatic Larva
Sunderland, Massachusetts, USA
August 20, 2008
Size: ~5mm
Hatched from cluster of disc-shaped eggs laid on edge of water dish

Moved
Moved from Biting Midges.

It looks very similar to...
Dasyhelea:

Ceratopogonidae
I feel I was premature in my ID, without prolegs this probably a Ceratopogonidae. I need to get back to aquatics more than I have over the last three years.

Image moved
to Ceratopogonidae; please let us know if there is something else this might be (i.e. if it should just be placed in Diptera for now).

Chironomidae
Chironomidae, identification usually requires smashing head on slide and keying teeth.
