Ants 4 - Solenopsis - female

Ants 4 - Solenopsis - Female
Truck stop off of Interstate 20, South Carolina, USA
August 14, 2008
Size: 2-3 mm?
Ok, this was interesting. One spot on the flats by the truck stop was still damp (there were small pools of water left), presumably from a rain shower, perhaps the day before, and ants were either evacuating or were perhaps trying to remove water (don't know).
They were carrying larvae & pupa with them.

What do you folks think?

Solenopsis
I think they're fire ants.

Ah!
Looks like it. Kaufman's Field Guide to Insects of North America has photos of them (or at least a similarly looking insects).
