What a schnoz!
I would try the Acorn Weevil, or in the subfamily Curculioninae. Great shot!

Thanks!
Thanks,

It looks a lot like Curculioninae Curculio to me.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge than myself can confirm.

unquestionable Curculio
the shot is lovely, too, and i would try to convince you to keep it but for the fact that no other angle is available :(

I really like this image as well...
I only got two pictures of this weevil, this one and another that was extremely dark (flash didn't fire) before it dropped to the ground and disappeared. Anyway, I managed to use Photoshop to adjust the expose on the other image; it's a side view, but maybe it will help.

Also, I suspect that this is the same species as another I photographed more recently that hasn't been id'd past Curculio either:

great -- thanx, Dan, for the add'l view; now we're talking
this is a very tough group that drives systematicists nuts & acorns -- and the latest revision is rumored to have only confused things further, BUT the good news is, Dr O'Brien told me he'll take care of them one day, so pls be patient -- you have a good chance to get names for your stuff

Haha
Okay, thanks!
