Kind of looks like a mint. Does the plant have square stems and a strong odor? Another possibility would be a composite. It definitely isn't a willow. BTW, there are two species of plant in the photograph. Which plant are they on?

Neither mint nor boneset...
These plants have alternate leaves, and the leaves of boneset and all mints are opposite. I think these are almost certainly composites (family Asteraceae)... but are you certain that they are the same plant that the beetle was on? The leaf in the beetle photos looks different to me (paler color, finer teeth), like maybe some kind of willow after all.

Rough-stemmed Goldenrod?
This looks like Rough-stemmed Goldenrod
(
Solidago rugosa
)
to me: hairy stem; alternate, sessile leaves (on upper stem), sharp-toothed margin, one main vein. But I share Charley's concern: the leaves in the insect photos appear different (narrow, round-toothed) than the ones ones on the whole-plant photo. Perhaps the goldenrod was next to - and intermixed with - a willow along a creekbank?
