Spider consuming prey - Araneus diadematus

Spider consuming prey - Araneus diadematus
Carver, Clackamas County, Oregon, USA
September 22, 2022
Often I see spiders capture an insect, engulf it in web, and then retreat. I did not see the capture here but the spider was clearly consuming it. If I startled the spider it would retreat up the web briefly and then return to the meal. The prey appears all black, but with the large kidney shaped eyes of a bee (1st image?). Maybe injected venom causes a victim to blacken? An absolute guess.
Simulaneously, 6' away was a 2nd spider .
