Tiphiidae female.
Female tiphiid. In the west there are several related, look-alike genera.

Thanks, Eric.
Seems about as far as this one will go.

Subfamily Tiphiinae
it just went a little further...

Why, so it did!
Thanks so much, John.

We need a new page for this subfamily. Dr. Ascher has already IDed at least three specimens - this included - to go there.

Subfamily page
You got it!

Thanks, Ted.
Man, you're efficient! I was going to notify a couple of posters, but see you've already moved their posts.

My pleasure!
Thanks for your kind words. I see your many contributions; images as well as identifications often with a personal touch and a sense of humor. Have you considered becoming an Editor?

Thanks.
Yes, but it's too much like work. (I retired from a job in marketing communications and miss it not.)

Congrats!
I am about to retire in October, after working 25+ years at the same company, and I am really looking forward to November. :) In my situation, I find that contributions here are appreciated and nobody here forces me to do anything on any type of schedule, so its nothing like work. But I respect your decision and I appreciate your contributions and comments especially on my images. :)
