aphid invasion - Uroleucon helianthicola

aphid invasion - Uroleucon helianthicola
Hartford County, Connecticut, USA
June 24, 2005
what type of aphid is this?

What led you to this species ID?
Several Uroleucon will colonize Helianthus spp., and U. helianthicola is described as reddish brown with black appendages, including siphunculi and cauda. This is a pretty bright red and the cauda doesn't look distinctly black on these specimens.

I don't remember now...
Please go ahead and correct any of my old aphid IDs; no reason to assume I knew what I was doing!

Moved
Moved from Aphids.

They look similar to
The ones IDed as Brown Ambrosia Aphids which were also called Dactynotus rudbeckiae.

aphids
