Scantius aegyptius - Mediterranean Red Bug? - Scantius aegyptius
Islay Creek Campground in MontaƱa de Oro State Park, near sea level, San Luis Obispo County, California, USA
October 12, 2022
I saw many of these aggregations of bugs which were adjacent to old gopher holes in the grassy area in the center of the campground loop. Both adults and nymphs were present in great numbers. I observed them over a period of three days and they did not seem to disperse away from the aggregations. I would estimate there were at least 15 of these aggregations spread out over an area about 100' x 200'.
