Dagger backed Orbweaver without Flash - Neoscona crucifera

Dagger backed Orbweaver without Flash - Neoscona crucifera
Huntington Central Park, Huntington Beach, Orange County, California, USA
August 30, 2008

Moved
Moved from Orb Weavers.

Looks like Neoscona
We don't know what N. utahana looks like, so maybe that's what this is. It seems too dark for arabesca.

What about Neoscona crucifera
What about Neoscona crucifera? Other than the really big, black one I saw at the end, the hundred+ circular orb weavers I saw today all looked very similar.

and crucifera is in Orange Co!
see the link Lynette just posted to

Maybe we'll get a spider expert
sometime who can tell us about these Neoscona. We just don't know how variable they can be. This is just so well marked that it seems unlike crucifera to us, but...???
