Satyrium calanus - Banded Hairstreak? - Strymon melinus - Female
Ocean Pines, Worcester County, Maryland, USA
August 30, 2008
Found resting on a spring of Spearmint (Mentha spicata) in my back yard. I was intrigued by the way this fellow kept its wings moving ever so slightly to make the false "antennae" near the bright orange "eyespot" move constantly, as if it were the butterfly's true head.
