Probably a mason wasp but looks different from the one I posted earlier. Any info would be great. Thanks.

Aphilanthops subfrigidus
Agreed that the defining characteristics are not always obvious on physical specimens and this picture. That said this does appear to fit with
subfrigidus
and it is the only species I have seen from the coast of BC (
frigidus
appears to, at least in BC, be limited to the west of the cascades).

Aphilanthops frigidus or subfrigidus
Extensively ferruginous is quite exaggerated, at least in specimens from Ontario, which I have seen many. The lower side of the flagellum is quite faintly reddish towards the base in material I have studied. In this picture one would not be able to appreciate the difference so the question remains open.

according to Bohart (1966):
the flagellum of A. frigidus should be "extensively fulvous" whereas that of subfrigidus is "all black". I don't see extensive fulvous in this photo, but neither the angle nor the resolution is optimal. In A. frigidus the pale tip to the apical flagellomere is usually visible even if viewed from above.

species ID should be double checked vs. subfrigidus
according to the Red Catalog only A. subfrigidus is expected in British Columbia, with frigidus found NW only to Washington State

thanks for this clarification of the range
Bohart and Grissell (1975) was published too late to be included in the 1979 Red Catalog I had at hand

Philanthini.
This is a sphecid wasp in the tribe Philanthini, but hard to tell what genus. The tribe includes the "bee wolves" and "weevil wasps."
