So is the tip of the abdomen just sticking out a little more in this individual, revealing a bit more pattern?

 
They could be different individuals
They could be different individuals. The terminal segments with more white in one specimen but it may be a trick of the light....
One has more pollenaria than the other. The white band at posterior margin of tergite 4 looks wider in this specimen. They are variable.
Note the yellow/white posterior margin to both tergite 4 and 5 and the yellow/white rim to scutellum. Scaeva affinis has each lunule marking noticeably narrowed medially and with a more noticeable terminal club.
